About Help Insurance
Last updated
Help Insurance is an independent website that helps people in the United States understand insurance. We read what regulators, state agencies and research organizations publish, and we turn it into guides that a person without an insurance background can follow.
What we do
- Research. We look for the primary source of every figure and legal requirement: state insurance departments, motor vehicle agencies, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and similar bodies.
- Summarize. Official publications are accurate but often long and technical. We condense them without changing what they say.
- Explain. We define terms, compare concepts that are easy to confuse and work through examples.
- Organize. Information about a single question is usually scattered across many sites. We bring it together and link back to each source.
What we do not do
Help Insurance is not an insurance company, agency, broker or agent. We do not sell policies, issue quotes, collect applications or give personal advice about which policy to buy. Nothing on this site is an offer of insurance.
We do not publish invented statistics, testimonials or credentials. If we cannot find a reliable source for a number, we leave it out and say that it is not available.
Who writes the guides
Guides are published under the name Help Insurance Editorial Team. Unless a reviewer is named on a specific page, articles have not been reviewed by a licensed insurance professional. Our editorial guidelines describe how we research, write and correct our work, and our research methodology explains how we choose and use sources.
How the site is funded
Help Insurance does not currently earn commissions, referral fees or advertising revenue from insurance companies. If that changes, we will say so here and on any page it affects.
